Bloomington Indiana - Best Home Improvement Ideas

One of the best things we've done to make our home more attractive and pleasant is to re-do our garage.  It was such a mess.  We were not organized at all.  The floor was dirty and had oil stains on it.  We had cobwebs in the corners.  Stuff was stacked everywhere.  Every time we would come home from work, we would just park in the driveway because there was no room in the garage.  We were borderline hoarders.  We could have been on that TV show.  Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad.  We needed a clean out and a new look.  It got to the point it was depressing.

We hired Bloomington Garage Floors to help us.  They normally just focus on the garage floors, but we talked them into doing a complete clean out.  We spent one whole day just getting rid of stuff.  They took stuff to donate to shelters and such and we rented a dumpster to just trash everything else.  We used one of those rules that if we haven't used it, or even touched it, in 24 months, we didn't need it.  No more hoarding.  No more having people judge us when our garage door was up.  No more feeling ashamed when neighbors drove by.  That day was a day of reckoning.  I guess we could have done this ourselves, but there was 20 years of stuff in there and having a couple guys to do the work was helpful.

That led to the next step, the garage floor.  Bloomington Garage Floors specializes in concrete garage floors.  We thought everyone used epoxy on their garage floors, but they recommended something called polyaspartic as the best garage floor coating.  It dries faster, doesn't scratch as easy, doesn't yellow or doesn't peel from hot tires.  We liked the 15 year warranty.  We're 55 years old, so that puts us at 70 without ever having to worry about it again.   They ground off the concrete and applied their coatings along with some flake that gave us a textured floor.  We didn't want the slippery stuff.  It was dry the next day to walk on.

Next was paint.  We ended up hiring someone to paint.  Bloomington Garage Floors said they could paint as well, but they had other garage floors on their schedule.  Had we known beforehand, we could have scheduled them.  We had some holes in the drywall we wanted to fix first and then painted the whole garage, including the ceiling.

Bloomington Garage Floors came back after that and put up a garage storage wall for all of our garden tools, hose, and all.  Plus, we installed cabinets around our spare refrigerator.  The floor was a tan color so we picked tan, or maple, cabinets too.  Even the storage wall is a matching color.  The stuff that doesn't hang on the wall, we were able to put into the cabinets, even the golf clubs.   Now, our garage looks better than the house.  We leave the garage door open on purpose now.  lol.  I guess the kitchen is next.
